Dave and Busters in Pelham Manor, NY

Not incredibly impressive sports bar.

Yeah, this wasn’t great.

I stopped into Dave and Busters today to try to catch some of the NY Jets game.  Their tagline is, “Eat, Drink, Play, Watch.” Dave and Busters, “D&B”, is mostly known for their arcade and the tons of fun you can have there.  They host kids parties and have party rooms. D&B is looking to expand their business outside of just kids so the bars and bar areas are big and they have some decent happy hours.  And of course, you can always go play Skee Ball!

My visit didn’t last the 1st quarter of the game as I wasn’t enjoying my visit.  I watched the Jets win at home. It was a crazy game vs. Denver, but I digress.

My first experience at a D&B bar started with me sitting at the pretty empty bar and having the bartender walk past me several times until she asked me what I wanted while washing dishes.  I asked for any gameday specials and she replied, “We have domestic drafts for $4.”  Sounded good to me.  They had all of the usual mass-produced US beers plus Lagunitas and Sam Adams.  Nothing truly original, but what the hell.  I asked for a Sam Adams and was told, “That’s not domestic.”  hmmm..  “OK” I said, “How about a Miller Lite?”  I was told that the only domestic specials were Bud Light, Coors Light and Mich Ultra.  Sigh.  I begrudgingly asked for a Coors Light.  At least it was cold.

Pretty fancy drink menu though if you like something, not beer:

I decided to give the wings a shot.  I tried that Siracha Honey wings hoping for some sweet spice.  They were average at best. Crispy, sweet, no heat and there were 8 so that’s about $2 a wing, not so great.  Still the Coors Light was $4. Average wings. The average fries as an addition to the wings were $3. Below-average beer. Overall, average price.Dave and Busters siracha honey wings and fries and sorry looking carrots

But you have to check out this zoomed-in shot of the carrots.

That picture is not altered.  The carrots looked like weathered and splintered wood.  No joke.  I usually eat the carrots with wings if they come but also don’t care all that much.  I ate the wings. When the bartender picked up the finished plates with the carrots still there, I asked, “Take a look at the carrots as I think they’re a health hazard.”  Her reply was, “You’re right and we’ve told the kitchen to not send them out like this but they keep doing it.”  I didn’t get a “sorry”. I didn’t get a half-pour for free or anything. Sad food. Sad service.

This is what the bartenders look like while you’re impatiently waiting for your check, in case you were interested:

Here’s the rest of the menu that I personally will never be ordering from:

Screens though. They had screens.  Lots of them.  Lots of giant screens with every game on at least one of them. If you want a sports bar with lots of screens and decent-priced, average beer, then this might be the place for you.

And of course, the arcade is always fun. I love me some Space Invaders and/or a game of pool.

There is free parking as well.  It’s a big lot shared with Planet Fitness.

The pipe that runs over the Hutchinson River in Pelham Manor, NY

Now that last picture is of a pipeline that goes over the Hutchinson River. It’s at the end of the parking lot.  It’s been there since I was a kid and we shopped at Korvetts and Caldors.  I have no idea what runs through it but I guess putting that ugly thing up was easier and cheaper than going under the river.

That’s all I got on Dave and Busters.  A mediocre experience at best and if that’s the attention they give to their food, I won’t eat there.
