Gordos North in Thornwood, NY

Shoved into the corner of the “Shop Rite Shopping Center” on Broadway in Thornwood, NY, is Gordos North.  A friendly American joint tagged, “A new dining experience with old friends.”  

Updated on 10/13/23.  You’ll see the menu below, but it has changed since, and their prices have seriously increased.  $20 for a turkey club sandwich? Insane.

Now there is some history here that, as far as I can see, still has some legal issues under consideration.  There was a great bar called “Gordos” in the town of Hawthorne, which is, believe it or not, just south of Thornwood and Gordo’s North.  Where that used to be now stands the Unionville Tavern. You can read up on the legal issues if you want.  Me?  I just want a cold beer.

Gordo’s North is a modern-looking American restaurant with a long bar that probably sits 20+ if necessary.  There are a couple of screens featuring the games but I wouldn’t call it a sports bar. Check out what happens when you take a panoramic shot when sitting in the center of the bar!

There is your average selection of beer taps with all the usual mass-produced and local brews.  The bar is very neat and stacked. 

The menu is full of great apps, burgers, etc., with some full dinners as well.  There are some daily specials like “Wednesday Wine and Flatbreads,” where a free glass of wine is included.

On this visit, I had a the Cheddar Jalapeno burger but I asked for it with grilled chicken instead of the burger and they were happy to oblige.  Super tasty sandwich with your run-of-the-mill fries.  All fine by me though.

That’s gotta get your mouth watering!

I’ve been a few times now and the food is great.  I’ve had a couple of different sandwiches and salads.  Good portions and all priced as standard Westchester.  

There is plenty of free parking in the shopping center and it’s super convenient if you need to get groceries, hit CVS, grab a bottle at the liquor store, or even hit the pet store.  It’s all there and more.

There is a main restaurant and a separate party room which is closed off and available for reservation.  They do open that room if it gets busy in the main restaurant though.  This is a pretty big place and it’s not likely you’ll need to call ahead or wait at the door. You can see it is a “hard” room though.  It can get a bit loud.  

All and all, a great experience at Gordo’s North.  Highly recommended and you should check it out!
